What does the endocannabinoid system do?

The endocannabinoid system has only recently begun to be studied, although it is involved in a large number of functions: a priori all the physiological processes of our body may involve its intervention.

Maintaining the balance of our body:
According to new studies, the endocannabinoid system would help our body to maintain homeostasis, that is to say to maintain its internal balance and to adapt to the external events to regulate essential functions like sleep, appetite, heart rate or body temperature. It allows us to adapt to changes in temperature, to external stress...
It is therefore said to be a "pro-homeostatic" system, i.e. it acts to maintain the homeostasis of our body.

Regulation of the central nervous system
At the level of the nervous system, the endocannabinoid system will help regulate the mechanisms of stress and limit the normal reactions of the body associated with it, such as sleep disorders, difficulties in concentrating and memorizing, or mood balance and emotional management.

The WHO has certified that CBD is safe and well tolerated even at high doses.

Where are the receptors of the endocannabinoid system located?

The receptors of the endocannabinoid system are present throughout the body. They are mainly located in the central nervous system but are also found in peripheral tissues such as the digestive system, liver and pancreas, cardiovascular system, lungs, adipose tissue, adrenal glands, reproductive system, skin, bones and muscles.

However, some disparities can be identified between CB1 receptors, which are mainly located in the central nervous system and peripheral nerve endings, and CB2 receptors, which are mainly found in immune system cells.

The endocannabinoid system plays a crucial role in maintaining the body's balance.

Why is it important to take care of your endocannabinoid system?

The endocannabinoid system is one of the most important communication systems in the body. It is the system that allows us to withstand and react to external stressors and thus allows the internal environment to remain in balance.

This functioning can be affected by many environmental factors such as lifestyle, stress, nutrition...

CBD and the endocannabinoid system

The cannabinoids produced by our body are very similar to the cannabinoids that come from nature (the "phytocannabinoids").

This is probably why CBD (also known as cannabidiol, one of the phytocannabinoids) works so well: it mimics the effects of a molecule that our body is familiar with: anandamide (discovered in 1992) also called "the happiness molecule", produced through the endocannabinoid system.

In other words, CBD would never be bad for your body, nor for your mental well-being, on the contrary it is a substance that your body already produces naturally.

So if your body accepts it, why not you?
